Medication and Supplements

My Journey with Diabetes Meds, Supplements, and What's Working for Me

Hey everyone, I want to get personal and talk about my experience managing Type 2 Diabetes, specifically the supplements and medications that have been part of my journey. I want to be super clear right from the start: this is just my story, not a recommendation for anyone else. It's so important that you talk with your own medical provider to figure out the right path for your health.

For years, I was really hesitant to start any anti-diabetic medications. I was determined to manage it all through diet, exercise, and supplements. But as my diabetes progressed, I had to accept that I needed more help, and that meant starting pharmaceuticals.

It's actually pretty common for people with diabetes to be on more than one medication, since it affects the body in so many ways. Right now, I'm on what's called "triple therapy." This means I use a few different medications that each tackle blood sugar from a different angle. For me, that's a GLP-1, a long-acting insulin, and an SGLT2 inhibitor called Jardiance. They all work together to help keep my glucose levels balanced.

But medication is only one piece of my puzzle. I also take specific supplements, stick to my diet, and use some of the other adjunct therapies I've talked about elsewhere on the blog. It's a whole-system approach!

If you're considering a GLP-1 medication like Mounjaro, Ozempic, or Victoza, I've picked up some really helpful tips as a patient for managing the side effects, and I'm happy to share what worked for me.

I also have to give a huge shout-out to two books that have been incredible resources for me: Dr. Bernstein's "Diabetes Solution" and Dr. Frank Murray's "Natural Supplements for Diabetes." You can find links to these in the resources section of my site. I highly recommend checking them out!
